ZFTU THREATENS FAWCETT

THE Zimbabwe Federation of Trade Unions (ZFTU) has said it will not tolerate MDC-T sympathisers within its structures, warning that companies owned by anti-Zanu PF business people risked closure.
Addressing workers at May Day celebrations in Bulawayo, ZFTU deputy administrator John Magwaza became particularly angry when he saw security guards from Fawcett Security Company, accusing them and their employers of pushing a regime change agenda.
“Fawcett is a company that should have ceased operations sometime ago because many of its officials are from MDC and they support the whites who took our land,” Magwaza told the guards.
He accused the guards of plotting to disrupt the ZFTU celebrations, before ordering them out of the venue.
“Here we do not want people like you who have come to disrupt this celebration,” he said to the security guards. “We cannot allow that kind of behaviour here so can you please march out and go out of here this very minute.”
Magwaza also took an exception at one of the Fawcett guards who was smoking during the celebrations, describing him as a bad apple.
“I did not know that you were allowed to smoke cigarettes while in uniform,” he charged. “There are some bad apples in Fawcett and this has been clearly shown by the behaviour of these guards.”
Contacted for comment, Fawcett Security regional manager for Matabeleland Eliazel Chikoore said he was not aware of the incident, which he said he would investigate.
“It is the first time that I am hearing that the guards were threatened and chased away from the Worker’s Day celebrations, but if something like that happened, we will definitely investigate,” he said.
Fawcett has in recent times run foul of authorities, with the National Indigenisation and Economic Empowerment Board (Nieeb) threatening it with suspension for failure to present an indigenisation plan.
